Make the most out of your peepers with these tips on how to apply those mascaras, liners and shadows…
Make the most out of your eyes and be bold, daring and experimental when it comes to eye make-up. Here are some tips how on how to suss out the liners, mascaras and shadows…
- Always prep your eyelid before applying eye shadow, use some foundation or a light concealer, followed by a little powder on the lid for a good foundation.
- Put a little foundation below your bottom lashes, this ensures the loose eye shadow doesn’t stick and it’s easier to remove once you are done applying. Beware of the ‘panda eye’ look.
- Confused about those eye shadow duos, trios and quads compacts and not sure which colour to start with first? The lightest colour is for your base which goes all over the lid, the middle colour is for the inner half of the lid and the darker colour is for the outer half and contour line.
- Never extend eye shadow too far past the inner and outer corners of your eye, this will make your eyes look heavy or overdone or just like Amy Winehouse which is not a good look.
- The most important rule of applying eye shadow is to blend, blend, blend so it looks effortlessly done.
- When it comes to the application of eye shadow, less is more. Don’t overload your brush with shadow because it will end in disaster. Start with a little and build on the colour as you go along. It’s always easier to add than to take off.
- Applied too much colour? Gently buff off with cotton wool and some gently eye make-up remover or use a skin-toned shade to tone it down.
- Eye shadow can easily be used, wet or dry, as eyeliner. Just use a fine or flat brush to apply along your lash lines.
- Make whites whiter and get bright eyes by lining your eyes inner corners (the V) with a light-coloured, shimmery pencil. It will make your pupils look really clear.
- Lining eyes with a dark liner or shadow will make them appear smaller than they are so be careful if you have small eyes.
- For bigger looking eyes try lining the inner rims of your eyes with a white pencil. The MAC white eyeliner pencil is fabulous.
- If you have blue eyes don’t be afraid of blue or purple eyeliner. It will really bring out the colour and the same goes for green-eyed girls. Don’t be afraid of colour.
